Broken Glass
What's happening
Prepare to clutch your pearls!
—or maybe just grab a mop. Returning at MidstreetLab by popular demand, the Anti-Art: A Visual Discourse on Transience II, isn’t here to cradle you in delicate brush strokes or muse on the pleasantries of "Isn't it pretty?" This exhibition, by the unapologetically raw and brilliant Broken Glass, is an unflinching kaleidoscope of transient angst, wielding chaos as both weapon and art form.
Broken Glass, an award-winning poet, scholar, and University of Brighton graduate, brings a visceral and deeply personal perspective forged by their working-class roots and Latinx heritage. Armed with a keen eye and a cutting critique, they take aim at late-stage capitalism, Eurocentrism, and the intricate anxieties of life in a fractured, post-globalised world. Their curated works—raw, scrappy, and deeply moving—have earned a place in the National Open Exhibition 2024, proving that disruption is as vital as beauty in the art world.
This exhibition dives headfirst into the cracks of modern society, exploring themes of historical scars, performative power, class struggle, and the fleeting, fractured self. With a mix of vulnerability and sharp wit, Glass challenges the very notion of art as a mere aesthetic or communicative device. Instead, The Anti-Art invites viewers into a critical dialogue—a messy, urgent rebellion against how meaning and power are produced, consumed, and manipulated.
Expect more than just contemplation. The Anti-Art is a provocation, a visceral response to the tangled web of nothingness that defines our time. It’s an assault on convention, spearheading a call to action through art that is personal, chaotic, and profoundly impactful.
You might laugh, cry, or even question your life choices, but one thing is certain: Broken Glass’s work will leave you thinking, feeling, and forever redefined.
The Anti-Art isn’t just an exhibition—it’s a tiny act of revolution.
