About

D.Calder / Tapestry Weaving Workshop

Drawing from weaving, in his curated exhibition at Mid Street Lab (April 15th - June 21st), D. Calder intertwines past and present, crafting emotional tapestries. Explore a world where each thread tells a story of resilience and growth. Celebrate Calder's artistry and discover hope amidst life's darkest moments. "A Father's Look" invites you to witness beauty emerging from adversity and new beginnings blossoming from struggle. “Art ignited my journey since childhood, sparked by a sketchbook at age ten. My training in Decorative Arts at Camberwell School of Arts in 1990 ignited my love for textile-based craftsmanship, furthered by a Post-Graduate study in Contemporary Tapestry weaving at West Dean College in 2001. In the nineties, I explored concepts through wall drawings and mixed weavings, blending traditional materials like wool with unconventional items. Influenced by urban culture, Graffiti inspired woven words became my signature. "Everyone Invited" was another residency at the Phoenix Gallery called ""Watch This Space"" in 2003, incorporating objects into temporary installations, some woven into on-site tapestries, capturing moments in time.” D. CaldD. Calder is available for commission and workshops at Mid Street Lab until 21 st of June.
