In our journey to build a better society, we must start by truly acknowledging one another. This exhibition challenges us to go beyond mere tolerance, colonial preconception or patriarchal conditioning, urging us to genuinely see each other, for what we see matters. "I Am Because You Are" explores the perspectives of three incredible artists, whose unique visions we are honoured to showcase. We proudly stand as their ally in presenting this groundbreaking summer show. For artwork reservations, please inquire within.
Join us for this amazing event! It's free to attend, but your generous donations are warmly welcomed.
Featured Artists:
- Antony Edwards - Free Yourself
"Free Yourself" showcases the perspective of locally renowned photographer Antony Edwards. Antony's portraits capture his subjects in bare suits or costumes, with a powerful aesthetic that makes them feel free. His work, featuring iconic gay characters such as the leather man and the drag queen, as well as a historical march that changed everything, reminds us that we must now look at each other without masks and embrace our true selves.
- Pierre-Yves Monnerville - Objectified
"Objectified" offers the perspective of Pierre Monnerville, founder of Unapologaytic, a brand focused on diversity awareness within the gay community. As an Afro-Caribbean gay man, Pierre draws inspiration from his unique experiences. His work reflects a society where every part of the body appears improvable, replaceable, or removable, often traded for attention and a price tag.
- Andrew Caldwell - The Times Square
"The Times Square" is Andrew Caldwell's ode to the poetic essence of male beauty. Studying photography under the guidance of his mentor Karen Firth for five years, Andrew captures moments that reflect male beauty during a significant period in his life. Each photograph is printed on archival paper, signed, and framed. Don't miss the chance to meet Andrew during the exhibition—his storytelling will transport you.
